This beautiful carving of Mary, Joseph, and baby Jesus was carved into a piece of cow bone. The carving sits on a base of suar wood. Suar wood comes from the Albiza Saman tree. The tree is originally from South America but grows in many different areas now including Indonesia and Thailand. It's also known as the Rain Tree, Monkeypod, Acadia, and South American Walnut. In Indonesia it is called Trembesi or Suar wood.
