Artesania Rinconada, now known as the De Rosa Collection,
is a famous Uruguayan brand of hand carved figurines.
Artesania Rinconada was founded in 1975 by Jorge De Rosa
Thompson along with Jesus and Javier Carbajales. In 1996
Jorge De Rosa Jr and his daughter Agustina De Rosa took
over the running of the company. The name was changed to
De Rosa Collections and a new production plant was built.
The figurines are now made exclusively in their workshop
in Canelones, Uruguay, South America.
Figurines start out as a master design from which a mold
is made. Liquid ceramic is pored into the mold and removed
when it's almost dry. The ceramic is then hand carved,
ensuring no two figurines are identical. After carving the
pieces are fired in a kiln, painted with enamel glazes, and
then fired again. The last step in the process is the
application of 18k gold and platinum accents.
